This print was inspired by the Calanais Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis.
It was created using 9 separate plates, three for each stone. The first layer (yellow ochre) used tetrapak / paper drypoint plates which were scored with a bladed compass and some areas pealed away. It was inked in relief. The second layer (green) used the same plate material which was crumpled up to create folds and creases in the surface. In addition some areas were wiped away after relief inking. The third layer (brown) used enviromount which was scored using an etching needle and a scapel. These plates were inked intaglio. A Polymetaal press was used to print each layer onto damp Fabriano Rosaspina paper.
The picture is double mounted and framed in a oak frame. It measures 36.2cm x 32.3cm to the outside of the mount.
